How to delete your Oura account

Cancelling the membership keeps your data; deleting the account destroys it. Which one you actually want, how to export before you decide, and what happens to the ring afterwards.

Worth being clear before you start: Oura is unusually good about letting you keep your data after you stop paying. Cancelling costs you nothing but the analysis. Deleting the account is the one irreversible action available to you.

The order to do it in

  1. 1

    Export from the Membership Hub

membership.ouraring.com, on the web. This is your only chance to keep a copy, and unlike WHOOP the export works even after you have cancelled, so there is no rush on this step until you delete.

  2. 2

Cancel the membership if it is still active

Cleaner than deleting an account with live billing attached, and it makes the billing picture unambiguous if anything is queried later.

  3. 3

    Request deletion from account settings

Look under account or privacy settings for a deletion or data request option. If it is not obvious, go to the next step rather than hunting through menus.

  4. 4

    Or ask support in writing

A written deletion request is a valid route and in several jurisdictions Oura is obliged to act on it within a defined period. State plainly that you are requesting deletion of your account and personal data, and keep the reply.

  5. 5

Verify you can no longer sign in

Deletion is processed rather than instant. Keep the confirmation until sign-in actually fails.

What deletion does to the ring

It retires it. The ring has no standalone function and needs an account to sync to, so once the account is gone the hardware is a titanium band.

This matters if you were planning to sell it. A buyer will need to pair it to their own account, which is normal, but do the sale before you delete rather than after, and factory reset rather than deleting your account as the way to hand it over.

Replacing the ring rather than just leaving? The field is in the Oura Ring alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

How do I delete my Oura account?

Request deletion from your account settings, or in writing to Oura support. It is handled as a data rights request rather than an instant button, so expect a confirmation step. Export your data first, because deletion is permanent.

Is deleting my Oura account the same as cancelling the membership?

No, and the difference is large. Cancelling stops the billing and keeps every night of data you have recorded. Deleting destroys the account and the history. If you only want to stop paying, cancel and leave the account alone.

Will I lose my Oura data if I cancel?

No. As long as the account exists, your data stays saved and stays exportable as CSV from the Membership Hub, with or without an active membership. Only account deletion removes it.

Can I use my Oura Ring after deleting my account?

No. The ring has no standalone function; it needs an account to sync to. Deleting the account effectively retires the hardware, which is worth thinking about if you were planning to sell it.

How long does Oura account deletion take?

It is processed rather than instant, and the exact timeframe depends on where you are and which data rights regime applies. Keep any confirmation you receive until you can no longer sign in.
