What cancelling actually costs you
Worth knowing precisely, because Oura degrades rather than shuts off and the difference matters.
You keep: the three daily scores (Sleep, Readiness and Activity), ring battery, basic profile information, app settings and the Explore content. The ring keeps tracking on your finger.
You lose: detailed sleep analysis, heart rate data, the stress features, and API access. In practice that is most of the reason people buy an Oura, which is why the membership is described as optional far more often than it behaves that way.
You keep, but should collect anyway: your history. As long as you do not delete the account, everything stays saved and stays exportable as CSV from the Membership Hub, membership or not.
Cancelling in the app
- 1
Open the menu on the home screen
Tap the menu icon in the upper left corner of the Oura app home screen.
- 2
Go to Settings
Select Settings from the menu.
- 3
Scroll to Account
Scroll down until you reach the Account section. Membership controls live there rather than under anything labelled billing.
- 4
Tap Manage membership and cancel
Follow the flow through to a confirmation. If the option is missing or greyed out, that almost always means the subscription is billed by Apple rather than by Oura, and the next section applies to you.
Cancelling on the web
Go to membership.ouraring.com, sign in, and use the cancel membership section. The Membership Hub is also where regional pricing, invoices and the CSV export live, so it is the more useful of the two routes if you want to do everything in one place.
Refunds, honestly
There is one real window. If you cancel before your complimentary first month ends, which comes with a new ring purchase, you are not charged at all.
After that, partial refunds are not available on cancelled prepaid or annual membership plans. You keep access for the remainder of the period you have paid for and then the app steps down to the three scores. If you are eight months into an annual plan, cancelling now and cancelling in month eleven cost you exactly the same, so there is no rush.
Ring returns are a separate process with their own window, governed by where you bought it. If your issue is with the hardware rather than the subscription, start there instead.
What to do with the ring afterwards
Three sensible outcomes, depending on why you left.
Keep wearing it on the free tier. Three daily scores is thin, but if you were only ever glancing at readiness in the morning it may genuinely be enough, and it costs nothing.
Sell it and buy a subscription-free ring. The Ultrahuman Ring AIR is $349 once with no ongoing fee for the data, which is the same form factor and sensor position without the annual bill. On Android, the Galaxy Ring is the same idea from Samsung.
Fall back to the watch you already own. If you have an Apple Watch and are willing to sleep in it, the signals a readiness score needs are already being recorded into Apple Health, and reading them costs nothing.
